Marco.org: Time bombs
Fred Wilson today updated and reiterated his suggestion to develop on Android first:
Roughly six months ago, I put up a blog post suggesting Android was going to be the dominant mobile phone operating system and that developers interested in the largest user bases ought to start developing…
Everything here—100% agree. Android may be eclipsing other competing platforms by sheer number of devices, but that doesn’t even begin to tell the story about what platforms marketers should explore/leverage. As with every other Apple vs. the world argument I will point to one singular idea: the holistic user ecosystem.
Apple is the only company that tightly controls the end-end user experience. As long as this is the case, the simplicity, thoughtfulness and sheer convenience involved in this strategy ensures that anything the brand touches will be aspirational to the “masses” and the gold standard in memorable, loyalty building interactions for years to come.

Last I heard, the Verizon iPhone was the best selling phone in the US - so that means it must be selling even better than the AT&T iPhone.

I have many friends who got Androids because of what you describe who are going to stick with them. Sometimes they prefer the look of the phone (or full keyboard), but they’re also used to it and see it’s issues as general phone ones and not specific

My old roommate once asked if she could print directions via Google Maps on my printer. I asked her why she didn’t just use Google Maps on her new Android phone. She replied, “I have Google Maps on my phone?” She just liked it for its touch screen.

Two things Marco:
1. The great unwashed masses don’t pay attention to release cycles so they’re unlikely to pay much heed to Android vs. iPhone.
2. Fragmentation is on the part of the manufacturers. Cars are no different yet they continue to sell.
